State Representative Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat, beat State Sen. Mark Moores, a Republican, Christopher Manning, a Libertarian, Aubrey Dunn Jr., an Independent, and others in a special election to represent New Mexico's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.
Candidates for the district, which includes Albuquerque, were chosen by their parties. The seat was previously held by Deb Haaland, a Democrat; she vacated the seat when she became the first Native American U.S. Secretary of the Interior in March.
Stansbury won with 63 percent of the vote.
